We recently received the following message in our inbox»»>
I have the desire to go natural but I am currently wearing my hair in a short cut with relaxer. My hair has grown thinner over the years and the edges are damaged and chemically over-processed. I have been using different methods to try and grow my edges but I am currently failing big time! In the end I have 2 questions for you ladies:
1. What are some recommendations to help me get my edges to grow and fill up?
2. What is the fastest way I can get the relaxer out of my hair?
In addition, my hair regime consists of conditioning my hair on Wednesdays and saying no to heat. Is there anything extra I can be doing to grow my hair?
Thanks in Advance

Hey Keisha:
We’re happy to help you out in your transition and happy for you as well. It takes commitment and some patience and you’ll get there just fine. There is a lot of ways you can stimulate natural hair growth.
First of all, with edges, you need to be careful of applying tension to your hair. Tight edges are one of the biggest leads to alopecia (an irreversible condition)! But it sounds like your hair is just experiencing some temporal stress. Try castor oil and almond oil around the edges. Almond oil mimics the natural oils (sebum) that you have in your hair and that will help encourage moisture preservation around your edges.
Second, the only fastest way to get rid of relaxer is to do the big chop. That is the fastest access you will have to your natural hair. The other is to just let your hair grow out while you cut off the relaxed ends. The latter is a gradual process while the big chop is the express way. In the meantime you can wear your hair out in twists and loose braids while transitioning. Try a pre-poo treatment before washing your hair to keep strengthening your hair and preparing it.
